Mobley Brothers Roofing & Renovation handles metal roof installation in Lebanon, TN from our Middle Tennessee office on Tirzah Street, led by co-owner David Mobley. We install three kinds of metal roof: exposed fastener panels, standing seam, and metal shingles. We also repair metal roofs that other companies installed. Because we are not a metal-only shop, we have no reason to push metal onto a roof that would be better served by architectural shingles, and no reason to talk you out of metal when it fits.

Every estimate starts the way all our work starts: an in-person look at the roof, photographs, and a written proposal that explains the options. The Lebanon office also takes metal roofing calls from Nashville and the rest of Wilson and Davidson counties.

Metal roofing in Lebanon, TN and Wilson County, from a local office

Our Lebanon office serves Wilson County and the surrounding Middle Tennessee towns, from Mt. Juliet and Watertown to Gallatin and Hermitage. When you call about a metal roof, you talk with people who work out of Lebanon, not a crew passing through from out of state.

Lebanon has several companies that do nothing but metal. That focus can be useful, but it means the answer to every roof is metal. We start from the other end: what does this roof, this house and this budget actually need? Sometimes that is a standing seam roof. Sometimes it is an exposed fastener roof on a porch or addition. Sometimes it is a repair to the metal roof you already have, and sometimes it is architectural shingles.

We have been roofing Tennessee homes and buildings since 2007, when brothers Mike and David Mobley founded the company. The larger Knoxville office runs metal jobs too, and the two offices share what they learn.

Whether you are looking for a metal roofing company in Lebanon, TN or a metal roofing contractor in Lebanon, TN to repair what someone else installed, the questions are the same: which panel system, which fasteners, and who stands behind the work. We answer all three in writing before you sign.

Metal roof systems we install in Lebanon

Exposed fastener metal panels

Exposed fastener panels are screwed through the face of the panel into the roof. They are the most straightforward metal roof to install and they suit roofs with enough pitch to shed water well. Because the screws are the weak point on this kind of roof, we use ZXL screws that have a special cap over the washer. Mike Mobley has said that of the exposed fastener roofs we have done with those screws, we have not had to replace any.

Standing seam metal roofing

Standing seam panels join at raised seams with the fasteners hidden, so there are no screws through the face of the roof. It is the cleaner look and the more expensive system. For more on how standing seam compares with metal shingles, read our standing seam metal roof page.

Metal shingles

Metal shingles give a home the durability of metal in a shingle-style profile. They can suit homes where a panel roof would look out of place, and they are one of the options Mike walks homeowners through when metal is on the table.

Matching the metal to the roof and the building

The first question on any metal roof installation is pitch. If the roof is steep enough, exposed fastener panels are an option. If it is not, standing seam or another approach is the safer choice, and on very low slopes a membrane may be the honest answer.

The second question is the shape of the roof. Valleys, dormers, chimneys and walls all have to be flashed in metal, and each one is a place water can get in. Where water piles up behind a chimney or a wall, a cricket diverts it, splitting the flow to each side. Crickets are hard to do in metal, so a roof with several of them needs a crew that has built them before.

The third question is what else is happening to the house. Metal jobs sometimes come with other work: Mike has had a metal job that also included building new gables, installing windows and a door, and new siding. As a roofing and renovation company, we can plan that work together instead of sending you to three contractors.

Fasteners, flashing and the details that decide whether metal leaks

Metal roofs have a reputation for lasting, and a well-installed one should. When they leak, it is almost always at a detail, not in the middle of a panel. These are the details we pay the most attention to on every metal roof installation.

  • Fasteners: the right screw, driven to the right depth, with a sealing washer that is protected. That is why we use ZXL screws on exposed fastener roofs.
  • Trim at eaves, rakes and ridges, which has to shed water and stay tight in wind.
  • Penetrations such as plumbing vents and exhaust pipes, which need flashing made for metal.
  • Valleys and wall flashing, where two planes of water meet.
  • Crickets behind chimneys and other obstructions, so water cannot sit.
  • Transitions where a metal roof meets a shingle roof on the same house.

Metal roofing or architectural shingles for a Lebanon home

We install both, so this comparison has no sales angle. The right choice depends on your roof, your plans for the house and your budget. We will walk through it on your own roof, but here is how the main options compare in general terms.

Metal roof repair, including roofs we did not install

Repair first applies to metal too. A metal roof that leaks at a porch, a pipe or a trim piece rarely needs to come off. Our Lebanon team has located and repaired leaks in metal roofs in odd places, and our Knoxville team has repaired porch leaks on metal roofs another company installed, matching the color of the new work to the old.

Our recent Lebanon jobs are mostly shingle roofs, gutters and repairs. Metal calls get the same treatment as every other job there: we find the leak, photograph it, and give you a written repair proposal before we talk about replacement. If the metal roof really is at the end, we tell you and show you why.

What our credentials mean on a metal roof

Mobley Brothers is a GAF Master Elite residential contractor and a GAF GoldElite Commercial contractor. Those recognitions come from GAF, and GAF's coverage applies to the GAF systems we install, mostly shingle roofs. On a metal roof, the panel warranty comes from the panel manufacturer, and we put the product and its terms in your written proposal.

What carries over to metal is the discipline behind those credentials: correct flashing, correct fastening, clean job sites and a written scope. We are also a certified FORTIFIED Roof installer, a HAAG Certified Inspector for residential roofs, BBB Accredited with an A+ rating, and licensed in Tennessee under contractor license 59116. The company is fully licensed and insured, and it is both family-owned and veteran-owned.

FAQ

Questions homeowners ask

Straight answers, the way we would give them on your driveway. If yours is not here, call the office and ask.

More questions we get asked

What types of metal roofing do you install in Lebanon?

We install exposed fastener metal panels, standing seam metal roofing and metal shingles. Exposed fastener panels need enough roof pitch and are the simpler system. Standing seam hides the fasteners and costs more. Metal shingles give a shingle-style look in metal. We will recommend the one that fits your roof after we have been on it.

Is standing seam worth the extra cost over exposed fastener metal?

It can be, depending on your roof and your goals. Standing seam has no screws through the face of the roof, which removes the main maintenance point of an exposed fastener roof and gives a cleaner look, but it is the more expensive system. Exposed fastener panels installed with good screws, like the ZXL screws we use, can serve very well on a roof with enough pitch. We lay out both in writing.

Do metal roofs leak?

A well-installed metal roof should not, but metal roofs can leak at the details: fasteners, trim, flashings, penetrations, valleys and places where water piles up behind a chimney. That is why we focus on those details during installation and why most metal roof leaks we are called to are repairable without replacing the roof.

Can you repair a metal roof another company installed?

Yes. We repair metal roofs regardless of who installed them. We locate the leak, which can show up far from where it starts, repair and seal the source, and match the color as closely as we can. One of our Lebanon customers had us find a leak in a very odd place on their metal roof after we had installed their gutters.

Should I choose metal or architectural shingles?

Choose the roof that fits your house, your budget and how long you plan to stay, and ask a roofer who installs both. Architectural shingles usually cost less up front and, installed by a GAF Master Elite contractor, can carry GAF coverage of up to 50 years on qualifying installations. Metal costs more and suits some homes very well. We do not install three-tab shingles.

Can a metal roof go on a low-pitch roof?

Sometimes, but not every metal system. Exposed fastener panels need enough pitch to shed water, so on lower slopes standing seam or a different system is usually the better choice, and on very low slopes a membrane may be the right answer. We check the pitch on the first visit and will not recommend a system that does not suit it.

Is financing available for a metal roof installation?

Yes, financing is available upon credit approval for a metal roof installation, with credit and loans provided by Regions Bank. Ask either office when you request your free estimate, or check your options on our financing page. When the job is finished, you can also pay by cash, check, credit card or debit card.
