Signs You Have a Roofing Issue

It’s easy to know that you need a Knoxville roof repair company when you’re missing shingles or have a visible water leak (or worse, a hole in your roof). However, there are also some subtle signs that it’s time to call your Knoxville roofer for repair services.

1. Damp or Musty Smell in Your Home or Attic

Signs You Have a Roofing Issue

This is one of the least known signs. It’s most often noticeable in upper floors of a two-story home as there is often the least some sign of water intrusion. If you notice a musty smell and can access your attic, look for damp, wet or compressed insulation. For a home without an easily accessed attic, look carefully at your ceiling, especially where the wall meets the ceiling. Look for signs of bubbling paint or water damage. It’s often easiest to spot along the edges of a room.

2. Bubbling or Peeling Paint

Paint, even exterior paint, doesn’t stand up well when water gets behind it. If you have bubbling or peeling paint inside or outside, you may have a roof leak. If you have a large bubble inside your home, be prepared to catch water inside the bubble if you decide to explore further by popping it. Unless there’s a pipe nearby, you have a roof leak and should call your Knoxville roof repair expert.

3. Shingles that No Longer Lie Flat

Your shingles should lie flat against your roof deck. If yours are warped, bubbling or curling, as they are in the image seen here, there’s an issue. Although it may not be a roof leak, there is a roofing issues of some sort. Although these issues are often the result of water damage, sometimes it’s pest damage.
